June 09, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on setting a new record as India’s longest-serving elected prime minister, describing the achievement as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in him by the Indian people over three consecutive terms in office.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Nigerian leader hailed Modi’s leadership credentials, noting that his commitment to public service, national development and global diplomacy had earned him admiration across the world.
President Tinubu said Modi’s historic milestone underscored the enduring support he enjoys among Indian citizens and highlighted the impact of his administration on India’s growth and international standing.
“I warmly congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the historic milestone of becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. This remarkable achievement reflects the enduring confidence and trust the people of India have reposed in his leadership over three consecutive mandates. His dedication to public service, commitment to national development, and influential leadership on the global stage continue to inspire millions worldwide”, he said.
President Tinubu also highlighted his personal relationship with the Indian leader, describing Modi as both a steadfast friend of Nigeria and a trusted ally.

“Beyond being a great friend of Nigeria, Prime Minister Modi is a personal friend and trusted ally whom I can always count on. Over the years, I have come to deeply admire his wisdom, courage, and commitment to the progress and prosperity of his nation”, he added.
The President further recalled Modi’s recognition by Nigeria through the conferment of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), one of the country’s highest national honours, noting that the Indian prime minister had played a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
According to Tinubu, Modi’s contributions have helped deepen diplomatic, economic and strategic cooperation between Nigeria and India, relations that have continued to expand in areas including trade, investment, technology, healthcare and capacity development.
“As a distinguished recipient of Nigeria’s national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), he has also contributed immensely to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two countries”, the President stated.
Tinubu expressed optimism that the relationship between Nigeria and India would continue to flourish under Modi’s leadership and wished the Indian leader continued success in steering his country toward greater achievements.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, I wish Prime Minister Modi continued good health, wisdom, and success as he leads India to even greater heights”, the statement added.
Nigeria and India have maintained longstanding diplomatic and economic relations, with India remaining one of Nigeria’s major trading partners and a significant source of investment in sectors ranging from manufacturing and pharmaceuticals to information technology and energy.
