Former CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns are plotting a move for Super Eagles forward Sunday Adetunji, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sundowns are coming off a largely successful campaign that saw them win the CAF Champions League, though they narrowly missed out on the South African Premier League title to Orlando Pirates.

As one of the wealthiest clubs on the continent, they are known for investing heavily in their squad and are looking to add quality to their side ahead of next season.

According to recent reports, they are now considering a transfer for Adetunji. The 28-year-old marksman is currently with Sudanese club Al Hilal Omdurman, having joined last summer. Last season, he scored two goals in 11 games as the club reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Interestingly, he scored against the Brazilians when he faced them with Al Hilal last season.

Soccer Can Adetunji Deliver For Mamelodi Sundowns?

Adetunji has been a journeyman for most of his career, having played for 13 different clubs.

He started his career on the home scene, playing for Plateau United, Lobi Stars, Enyimba, Rivers United, and Abia Warriors. However, he has been playing abroad since 2021.

Adetunji has played for FC Shkupi, Celje, Cukaricki, Ballkani, and now Al Hilal, giving him a wealth of experience.

The 28-year-old attacker is very physical, provides a significant aerial threat, and possesses an impressive work rate. Because he can also play as a winger, he is well-suited to African football.

He is currently valued at €500k on Transfermarkt, a fee Mamelodi Sundowns can easily afford. It remains to be seen whether they will make the move happen.

Adetunji has one cap for Nigeria; he featured for the Super Eagles in a friendly game against Mexico in 2021, while Gernot Rohr was coach.
