Salah’s agent denies reports of Besiktas agreement

Soccer

Mohamed Salah’s agent appears to have rubbished reports that the former Liverpool winger has agreed to join Besiktas, claiming there is still no decision on his future.

Salah reached an agreement with Liverpool to cancel his contract at the end of last season, bringing the curtain down on his glittering nine-year stay at Anfield.

Having arrived from Roma in 2017, Salah won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup and the Community Shield with the Reds.

Salah made 315 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, the fifth-most for the club behind Jamie Carragher (508), Gerrard (504), Jordan Henderson (360) and Sami Hyypia (318).

And he is one of just 10 players to be both the leading goalscorer and the top assister for a club in the Premier League, netting 191 goals in the competition while teeing up 93.

Salah – who became embroiled in a public spat with former Liverpool boss Arne Slot midway through last season and was temporarily frozen out by the Dutchman – has been strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in recent years.

On Friday, widespread reports suggested he had agreed terms with Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas, prompting his agent Ramy Abbas Issa to issue a rebuttal.

He wrote on X: “I personally do not know where Mohamed will play next season. What does that tell you?”

Earlier on Friday, Abbas wrote in a separate post: “It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn’t want to play for, just for the sake of noise.”

I personally do not know where Mohamed will play next season. What does that tell you?

Salah recently led Egypt to the round of 16 at the World Cup, where they were beaten 3-2 by Argentina after leading 2-0 going into the 79th minute.

Argentina’s comeback was the latest ever in a World Cup match by a team that had trailed by two goals and eventually won without requiring extra time.
