Depending on how plugged-in you are, you might have noticed Sony has not been posting on its social channels since yesterday’s announcement about dropping physical PlayStation games.
That means new posts on the PS Blog, or new trailers on its YouTube channel, are still being published, but Sony isn’t promoting them.
Today, 2nd July 2026, a PS Blog post about Dune: Awakening shares more details on the PS5 version of the survival action game, including a detail that’s very poorly timed — though I’m sure publisher Funcom wasn’t to know.
I’m talking about the fact Dune: Awakening is getting a physical PS5 release as well as a digital one, freshly announced in this new post.
Funcom is teaming up with Bandai Namco, which will publish the game in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, while Solutions 2 GO will do the same for North and South America. It’s also heading to retail in Japan, though a publishing partner hasn’t been announced yet.
“With the third installment in Denis Villeneuve’s and Legendary Entertainment’s epic Dune franchise coming to theatres in December, the physical edition can be a great holiday gift for Dune fans around the globe,” writes Funcom’s Erling Ellingsen.
Indeed.
Elsewhere in the post, Ellingsen emphasises the new additions and ways in which the game has been optimised for PS5.
The UI and controls have been streamlined for controller play, and the team has created two visual modes to choose from on both PS5 and PS5 Pro.
There’s a quality mode locked to 30 frames-per-second on both systems, and they each have a performance mode targeting 60 fps. Base PS5 uses frame-gen to achieve this, while PS5 Pro doesn’t.
The big attraction for many will be the new single player mode. Dune: Awakening is designed as a multiplayer experience, but Funcom is building a bespoke single player mode that allows you to play solo if you wish. Pretty impressive.
