‘The Situation Sweetens The Pot’ — Fantasy Analyst Believes That Tyler Shough Could Be A Skeleton Key in 2026

Football

For those paying attention late last season, Tyler Shough proved himself worthy of confidence. However, PFN Fantasy Analyst Jason Katz believes that his current cost doesn’t reflect his fantasy football upside as he masters the always-friendly Kellen Moore system.

This is not only a great take, but it could also be a league-winning move for those who elect to wait on drafting their signal caller.

Football Tyler Shough Is a Legitimate QB1 Sleeper for Fantasy Football in 2026

Draft Tyler Shough with real conviction as your QB2 or a late-round QB1 swing, because the version of him that showed up in the second half of his rookie season wasn’t a fluke. Since taking over for Spencer Rattler in Week 8, Shough went 5-4 as a starter and grew into the job. From Weeks 12 through 18, he ranked as fantasy’s overall QB5 and posted a quartet of QB1 finishes.

The rushing ability is what pleased fantasy managers a season ago, and it should be here to stay. Shough wasn’t asked to run much early, but as the season wore on, he weaponized his legs in a meaningful way.

He ran for at least 18 yards in five of his final seven games, including a two-touchdown rushing performance against Tampa Bay in Week 14 that made him a DFS difference maker if you rolled the dice. That kind of upside on the ground gives Shough a floor we don’t always get the chance to see from rookies.

Natural Year 2 growth alone should push Shough’s numbers up, and the Saints are clearly interested in making that happen.

Travis Etienne arrives to give this backfield a chance at threatening defenses in a way that the Alvin Kamara version was unable to do last season, and the Saints spent the eighth overall pick on Jordyn Tyson to give Shough a viable WR2.

That matters more than it might look on paper. Last season, no Saints receiver other than Chris Olave topped 70 receiving yards in a game except for Devaughn Vele’s Week 13 outburst. Shough was operating with essentially one weapon for most of the year, and he still left us encouraged: imagine what is possible if Tyson is as NFL-ready as most scouts suggest.

Add a legitimate WR2 and a pass-catching back, and the ceiling moves up without asking Shough to do anything he hasn’t already shown he can do.

The efficiency downfield is the piece that gets overlooked. Shough threw a deep touchdown in each of his final three games last season, blending his physical running with some passing touch. That’s proof of concept on the exact skill fantasy managers are paying up for elsewhere at the position, and Shough can be had at a fraction of the cost.

Football Tyler Shough’s December Fantasy Football Schedule Is a Gift

Late-season quarterback streamers usually have to fight through bad weather, and that’s not a problem here. New Orleans closes 2026 with a soft, dome-friendly stretch. Three of the final road games in that run come against NFC South opponents at Carolina and Tampa Bay, plus a trip to Atlanta to open January, with home dates against Arizona and a rematch with the Buccaneers mixed in. None of those five games carries any real threat of a weather-driven game plan, allowing us to remove one negative factor from the projection.

That’s a fantasy playoff schedule managers should feel good about. Divisional games that aren’t overly intimidating, warm-weather/indoor venues in every one of those five games, and an offense that should be humming by then with Etienne and Tyson integrated.

None of this requires Shough to leap into elite territory. It requires him to keep doing what he did down the stretch as a rookie, now with better weapons and a full season of reps as the guy. At his current draft cost, that’s a great return on investment, and by planning on going this direction, you open yourself up to a ton of options in the first half of your draft as your opponents worry about the QB position.
