Middle Of July 2026 Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Football

Happy Friday, and I hope yinz are doing well.

We are now just two-and-a-half weeks away from training camp! It won’t be long until the Steelers descend on Latrobe and kick off the long 2026 NFL season. For now, things remain slow as the football world takes its final breath before a long trek begins.

As we creep closer to some of the bigger camp storylines playing out before our eyes, there is some to talk about this week. Darius Slay made some comments about Joey Porter Jr. and his suspect hands earlier this week, which irked Ike Taylor. Also, Juan Thornhill offered some spicy comments about his Steelers tenure, most of his frustration aimed at Teryl Austin.

While we are surely in the midst of the dog days of summer, camp is just around the corner.

We hope you had a safe, happy, and fun Fourth of July weekend.

As always, we’re here with you throughout the weekend for whatever news comes our way.

Have a safe and happy weekend.

Recap: 2026 Fourth Of July Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

One week closer to camp!

Q1: Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith one year ago. If you could go back in time, would you still make the trade?

Almost everyone said they would still trade Minkah Fitzpatrick for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith. A few, however, noted they’d prefer draft picks over Jonnu Smith. The consensus was that Fitzpatrick had lost his mojo, and Ramsey may have juice left to contribute. Wes wrote, “Yes, but it would be a bit different. I wouldn’t have included Smith in the trade—perhaps a 5th- or 6th-round pick instead (if possible) along with Ramsey. Fitz wasn’t very productive as far as splash plays were concerned over his last few seasons with us. I think the Steelers and Minkah needed a change.”

Q2: Which Steelers rookie do you expect to start the most games in 2026?

Germie Bernard is the rookie readers believe will start the most games in 2026. Gennings Dunker received just one vote. Kaden Wetjen was mentioned but as a special teams player.

Q3: What are you looking forward to the most at training camp?

Everyone mentioned some aspect of the Steelers’ offense that they look forward to seeing in Latrobe. The camp battle between Drew Allar and Will Howard was mentioned the most. But folks also want to see how the offensive line is shaping up. And to see Aaron Rodgers working with his old (and new) head coach Mike McCarthy. Chris92021 writes, “How the young QBs develop while Rodgers saves his arm for the regular season.”

Q4: Who’s your favorite coach added to Mike McCarthy’s staff so far?

Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is the favorite coach added by Mike McCarthy. Offensive line coach James Campen is a close second. Warrior1000 points out, “The new defensive coordinator. Defense wins championships as the saying goes, and there is a lot there for him to work with.”

Q5: Who will win the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

A few weeks ago, we asked who your favorite World Cup team was other than the USA. All the teams named have been eliminated except for Belgium. The Red Devils defeated the USA, 4-1. France is the overwhelming favorite to win the 2026 World Cup, according to Steelers Depot readers.
