Manchester United are in negotiations to send Nigeria-eligible centre-forward Chido Obi-Martin to Bundesliga side FC Köln on loan, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Red Devils are expected to have a busy transfer window following the appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach. As the club looks to reshape its squad, the 18-year-old Obi-Martin has been identified as a candidate for a temporary departure to help his development.

Obi-Martin first broke into the Manchester United senior setup two seasons ago following a high-profile move from Arsenal’s academy, where he had been a prolific scorer at the youth level.

He made eight first-team appearances during the 2024/2025 campaign. But unfortunately for him, he found minutes difficult to come by last season due to the presence of senior strikers such as Benjamin Sesko, Joshua Zirkzee, and Bryan Mbeumo. Consequently, the majority of his development took place with the Under-21 squad.

Soccer Will a Manchester United Exit Help Chido Obi?

According to Transfer Feed, Manchester United are currently in discussions with FC Köln regarding a potential loan move.

The club is keen to see the youngster gain consistent first-team experience in an environment with reduced pressure. Despite his lack of senior minutes, the Red Devils remain confident in his long-term potential and are unwilling to let him leave on a permanent basis.

Obi-Martin first garnered widespread attention in 2023, when he scored 10 goals in a single game for Arsenal’s Under-16 side in a 14-3 victory over Liverpool. That performance turned heads, and that was what even prompted Manchester United to go for him in the first place.

Soccer Can Chido Obi Play For Nigeria?

Chido Obi-Martin was born to Nigerian parents in Denmark on November 29, 2007, and that makes him eligible to for both nations.

While he currently plays for the Denmark Under-21s, he has yet to make a senior international appearance. Under FIFA’s eligibility rules, this leaves the door open for him to switch his allegiance to Nigeria in the future.

For now, the young striker’s focus will be on his professional development, with the long-term goal of sharpening his skills to eventually lead the line for the Red Devils eventually.
