Transfer: Record-breaking Super Eagles star set for Turkish move as Erzurumspor battle Amedspor

Soccer

Two newly promoted Turkish Süper Lig clubs, Erzurumspor and Amedspor, are reportedly interested in signing Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka as they prepare for the 2026/27 season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 30-year-old Olayinka has become a notable name in the Turkish transfer market after reports suggested that Erzurumspor are close to reaching an agreement with the experienced winger.

The Nigeria international is currently available on a free transfer, making him an attractive option for clubs looking to add quality and experience without paying a transfer fee.

According to reports from Turkey, Erzurumspor have intensified talks with the former Slavia Prague and Red Star Belgrade star as they seek to strengthen their attack ahead of their return to the top flight.

The interest has also revived memories of Amedspor’s failed attempt to sign the Nigerian during the January transfer window last season. At the time, Amedspor wanted Olayinka to boost their promotion push, but the move never happened.

Instead, the Nigerian chose to continue his career elsewhere, eventually joining Cypriot giants APOEL. Now, after becoming available again, he has returned to the radar of Turkish clubs.

It is believed that discussions between Erzurumspor and Olayinka’s representatives have progressed positively, with both sides said to be moving closer to an agreement. The club sees the four-cap Super Eagles star as a player capable of helping the club survive and compete in the Süper Lig.

Soccer Super Eagles: Olayinka’s experience and European success

One of the biggest reasons behind the growing interest in Olayinka is his versatility and impressive record across Europe.

Although naturally a left winger, the Nigerian can also operate as a centre-forward, second striker, or attacking midfielder. His ability to play several attacking roles makes him a useful option for coaches who want tactical flexibility.

Throughout his career, Olayinka has built a reputation for combining pace, strength, technical quality and relentless work rate. His most successful spell came with Czech powerhouse SK Slavia Prague, where he became one of the club’s modern legends.

During his five seasons in Prague between 2018 and 2023, Olayinka scored 50 goals and provided 26 assists in 183 appearances. He helped Slavia win three Czech league titles and three Czech Cups while becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer in European competitions with 13 continental goals.

His performances also extended to UEFA tournaments. Across the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League, Olayinka consistently delivered important goals and assists against top opposition.

Following his success in the Czech Republic, he moved to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade, where he continued adding trophies to his collection before later spending time with APOEL in Cyprus. Earlier in his career, he also represented KF Skënderbeu in Albania and SV Zulte Waregem in Belgium.

No official announcement has been made by either club or the player. However, with Erzurumspor pushing hard to complete the deal and Amedspor previously known admirers, attention is now focused on whether Olayinka’s next destination will be in Turkey. The coming days are expected to provide a clearer picture as negotiations continue.
