Agege APC Leaders Petition Tinubu, Over Alleged Manipulation of Primary Result

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State have formally petitioned President Bola Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), and INEC, accusing party officials of altering the outcome of the primary election for Agege Constituency I.

In a petition dated June 1, 2026, and signed by the Agege LGA APC chairman, secretary, and executives from the five wards in the constituency, the leaders claimed that Mr. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi won the May 20, 2026 primary with a decisive margin but was denied the ticket.

According to the petitioners, Egunjobi polled 9,132 votes out of 10,126 total ballots cast, while his closest rival, Mr. Tunde Shola Oladipo, scored 560 votes and Mr. Micheal Abiola Oluwagbenga got 434 votes.

They said Egunjobi was duly screened, participated in the election, and was officially declared the winner by the returning officer, Kayode Kassim Eleshin, in the presence of APC officials, INEC representatives, security agencies, journalists, and other observers.

The group described the primary as peaceful, transparent, and credible. However, they expressed shock when a newspaper publication on May 25, 2026, listed Mr. Micheal Abiola Oluwagbenga as the APC candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat, contrary to the result announced at the polling venue.

The petitioners urged the national leadership to review all records, including video footage from the five wards, observer reports, and security documentation, and to uphold the authentic result by recognizing Egunjobi as the legitimate candidate.

“We respectfully urge the National Working Committee and all relevant organs… to uphold the authentic result as declared by the Returning Officer and formally recognise Egunjobi Ganiyu Kola as the duly elected APC candidate,” the petition stated.

They also appealed directly to President Tinubu to intervene and protect the mandate given by party members in the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
