Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is expected to depart Besiktas this summer after just one season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ndidi joined the Turkish side from Leicester City in an €8 million deal last summer. As a high-profile arrival, he was expected to play a pivotal role in the club’s push for the Süper Lig title.

However, while Ndidi was a consistent performer, the team struggled collectively, finishing fourth — a disappointing 17 points behind champions Galatasaray.

Following their underwhelming campaign, Besiktas parted ways with coach Sergen Yalçın and have since appointed Vincenzo Italiano.

Speculation regarding Ndidi’s future has intensified, with reports suggesting he does not feature in the new manager’s tactical plans and the club is willing to push him out and sign a news defensive midfielder in the summer transfer window.

According to Ajanshaber, an exit is now imminent for Wilfred Ndidi this summer, with a move to the Saudi Pro League considered the most likely outcome.

Although the 29-year-old is under contract for the next two years, there has been no concrete interest from European clubs.

The former Leicester City man was previously linked with Manchester United, but a move to Old Trafford now seems highly unlikely give the fact that the clubs recently signed Ederson from Atalanta and have eyes on West Ham man Mateus Fernandes.

The Super Eagles star set to turn 30 in December, as such, he will likely be prioritizing a lucrative contract in the twilight of his career—a need that Saudi Arabian clubs are well-positioned to meet.

If Besiktas receive a good transfer fee, a move to the Middle East could materialize in the coming weeks. The transfer window is still open for over the next two months, so there is enough time for Ndidi to navigate his next move.
