Former WWE United States Champion was pitched to appear at Clash in Italy

WWE are set to host the latest instalment in their ‘Clash in…’ Premium Live Event this Sunday, taking this year’s show to Turin, Italy.

Five matches have so far been announced for Clash in Italy, but question marks over one bout have emerged after Jacob Fatu’s recent injury.

But Fatu is still expected to wrestle Roman Reigns despite picking up a back problem in Liverpool earlier this week.

Elsewhere, there has been a pitch for former WWE superstar Santino Marella to make an appearance at the PLE.

Santino Marella was pitched for WWE Clash in Italy

Marella initially joined WWE as part of their old development system, Ohio Valley Wrestling, back in 2005.

He then spent a number of years on the main roster, winning the United States Championship and Intercontinental Championship during that time before he was released from the company in 2016.

Marella has since made sporadic appearances for the company, including at the Raw Reunion show in 2019.

Now, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported that the idea has been pitched for Marella to make an appearance at Clash in Italy on May 31.

The former wrestler has already shared an Instagram post of himself in Italy this week, promoting a DJ set he will be doing.

But whether the idea of Marella featuring in any capacity for WWE this weekend was given the green light is not known.

What Santino Marella previously said about a full-time wrestling return

Now 52, the ex-wrestler has previously played down the idea of a return to the squared circle on a full-time basis.

Speaking to Fightful in 2022, he said: “No, I don’t really have a whole lot of interest in wrestling too much, to be honest. I enjoy doing commentary and maybe in the future you’ll see me somewhere as a color commentator, producer or something like that.

“My wrestling days are definitely behind me in terms of a career. I do it for fun. But I’ve got two small kids at home and I’m staying home and enjoying that as much as possible.”

Perhaps a one-off outing in Italy could appeal to Marella, but for now, it is unclear if he will actually be part of Clash in Italy this weekend.
