Super Eagles stars Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi are set to play under a new manager at Fulham, with fresh reports indicating that the club is in talks with former Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa, Soccernet.ng reports.

Portuguese tactician Marco Silva brought his successful five-year tenure at Craven Cottage to an end this summer, and subsequently left for Portuguese giants Benfica.

Silva’s exit leaves a significant void at Fulham; he provided the club with much-needed stability, guiding them to promotion from Championship and consistently keeping them clear of relegation battles throughout his stay.

In recent weeks, there has been a search for his successor, and it appears Fulham have identified Arbeloa as their prime target. The Spaniard is a Real Madrid legend as a player, but his coaching career is still growing.

His half-season stint as Los Blancos manager proved underwhelming, with a second-place LaLiga finish and a UEFA Champions League quarter-final exit leading to his departure. Nevertheless, Fulham appear ready to gamble on his potential for his first foray into English football.

Alvaro Arbeloa earned a reputation for strong man-management during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, even though his tactical setups failed to produce the silverware.

At Fulham, his ability to imprint his stlye into an established squad will be the primary test. And even though the current side is relatively balanced, the club will need to address the departure of Raúl Jiménez and bolster key areas of the pitch.

For Nigeria internationals Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, this period brings uncertainty. Bassey flourished under Silva, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most formidable center-backs. However, with the defender also capable of playing at left-back, it remains to be seen if Arbeloa will look to reshape his role.

Meanwhile, at 30 years old, Alex Iwobi is entering a key phase of his career. He is known for his unique ability to thrive in an inverted winger role or a free-roaming midfield position, his future may hinge on whether Arbeloa’s tactical formation can accommodate that specific profile.

With Bassey entering the final year of his contract and Iwobi tied down for two more, both players will be eager for clarity regarding the club’s long-term vision under the new regime.
