Spurs transfer news: Xavi Simons emerges as ‘tempting option’ for European giants

Bayern Munich may reportedly reignite their interest in Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Xavi Simons during the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international penned a five-year contract – which comes with a two-year option – when arriving from RB Leipzig in 2025.

However, Simons has contributed just five goals and six assists from his 40 appearances in all competitions.

Furthermore, ahead of Saturday’s showdown with bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spurs are involved in what is seemingly now a two-horse race to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Should the North Londoners drop down to the Championship, a wide array of departures will realistically ensue.

Why may Bayern move for Simons?

According to Bayern insider Christian Falk, as reported by cfBayernInsider, Bayern view Simons as a ‘tempting option’.

Last summer, it was deemed that he was too expensive. Spurs eventually paid £51.8m for his signature.

Nevertheless, they would struggle to recoup that fee if they were relegated, a consequence of clubs being aware that they could plausibly negotiate a lower fee.

At this point in time, it is stressed that the 23-year-old is currently not on Bayern’s shortlist ahead of the summer market opening in June.

That said, they may reconsider their stance should Spurs set a suitable asking price.

Despite his struggles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Simons contributed 18 goals and 20 assists from 58 appearances in the Bundesliga prior to his arrival in the Premier League.

Would Simons entertain Bayern move?

While there is the obvious attraction of representing Bayern Munich, Simons may not consider it as the right club for his career.

Given Bayern’s performance under Vincent Kompany, Simons would only be viewed as a backup option.

When he has sometimes struggled to hold down a starting role for Spurs, it would make little sense moving to Bayern where competition for places is stronger.
