- An alleged gang leader was shot dead in Kalksteenfontein on Thursday.
- His killing has sparked fears of retaliatory violence and renewed gang tensions on the Cape Flats.
- Subcouncil chairperson Angus McKenzie said security agencies, including the SANDF, had been placed on high alert to prevent further violence.
Fears are mounting of renewed gang violence on the Cape Flats after an alleged Fancy Boys gang leader, known as “Pang”, was shot dead in Kalksteenfontein on Thursday.
The victim was ambushed while sitting in his vehicle on the bridge along Jakkalsvlei Avenue near Bishop Lavis. A passenger travelling with him was wounded in the attack.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said a 36-year-old man was fatally shot, while the 30-year-old passenger had sustained injuries.
“The deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body, and the injured victim sustained gunshot wounds to the face, arm and hand,” he added.
“As they were driving, a blue Audi vehicle passed, and the occupants randomly started shooting at them.”

Police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder.
Residents familiar with gang activity in the area warned that the killing could trigger violent reprisals.
“There will be retaliation soon,” said one resident.
“Many members of the Americans and the Inglourious Basterds joined the Fancy Boys, and Pang was believed to be responsible for recruiting them. His death weakens the Fancy Boys, and gangs like the Hard Livings and Ghetto Kids may try to move in on their territory.”
Subcouncil chairperson Angus McKenzie said authorities were taking the threat of retaliation seriously.
“The incident raises serious concern about the potential for retaliatory violence, and in response, we have already engaged the relevant safety and security agencies operating in the area, including the South African National Defence Force, to ensure heightened vigilance and visible presence where necessary,” he added.

McKenzie said authorities would continue to closely monitor the area and remain in constant contact with law enforcement agencies to coordinate a rapid response.
“We urge anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward immediately.”
McKenzie added that the involvement of residents and local leadership would be critical in preventing further bloodshed.
“We call on all residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity without delay.”
