Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has offered an honest assessment of the newly invited NPFL-based players as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the 2026 Unity Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles’ training camp in London opened on Saturday, with 19 players already hitting the ground running. Preparations have begun in earnest as head coach Eric Chelle looks to instill his football philosophy into the squad.

Chelle handed invitations to seven Nigeria-based players for the tournament, drawing talent from Shooting Stars, Ikorodu City, Rivers United, and newly-crowned champions Enugu Rangers.

This camp marks only the second time in Chelle’s stint with the national team that there will be a significant blend of European and domestic league talent, with the first being last year.

Porto star Moffi who is one of the senior European-based players in camp with 19 senior caps, shared his thoughts on how the NPFL contingent is adapting to the national team setup.

”The boys have put in top-quality sessions. We’re proud to be here and happy to represent the country,” Moffi told journalist Austin Okon-Akpan. “We are looking forward to the upcoming sessions and the matches.

”As for the boys from the domestic league, they’ve been excellent. We could see their quality from the very first minute. This is exactly what the Super Eagles need—a healthy mix of foreign and home-based talent.

“We love it. There’s no pressure at all; we are just happy to be here, play football, enjoy ourselves, and win games.”

Nigeria kick off their Unity Cup campaign against Zimbabwe tomorrow, a matchup carrying plenty of recent history.

The Super Eagles and the Warriors were paired in the same group during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Although Nigeria entered those fixtures as heavy favorites, both legs ended in stalemates, and that cost them in the end.

Despite those frustrating results, Moffi remains very confident that the lads will do just enough to secure a win on Wednesday.

”It doesn’t make it a difficult game, and there are no hard feelings,” Moffi insisted. “We are just here to play another match against Zimbabwe, so we will approach it to win. And we will win.”

With Akor Adams and Victor Osimhen absent from the squad, Moffi is expected to lead the line for the Super Eagles. The Porto forward will be looking to deliver the goals needed to guide the three-time African champions to a triumphant start.
