‘Worst Basketball Performance I’ve Ever Seen in My Life’ — Analyst Rips Angel Reese’s ‘Brutal’ 8-Turnover Game

Basketball

Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese is one of the WNBA’s most polarizing players. While Reese has a large fan base, she’s also generated controversy for her on-court play and off-court comments. As a result, Reese is often subject to heavy criticism.

Following one of the worst performances of her career over the weekend, Reese was called out by a familiar face: sports analyst Jason Whitlock.

Basketball Jason Whitlock Rips Angel Reese After Her Poor Shooting Performance

Whitlock called out Reese’s poor performance on his podcast and reiterated his belief that she’s overrated.

“That was the worst basketball performance I’ve ever seen in my life. On any level! Junior high, high school, community college, JUCO,” Whitlock said. “And look, I get the rebounding, but 1-of-8 with every shot coming from the paint except for a three-pointer, 1-8 from point blank range.

“Eight turnovers and I watched this game, start to finish. It was brutal. The traveling calls, the turnovers, the shooting. I sincerely believe I’ve never seen anything this bad in professional sports.”

Reese had one of the worst games of her career in the Dream’s nationally televised matchup against the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces. Reese finished the Dream’s 85-84 loss to the Aces with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

However, as Whitlock mentioned, she shot 1-of-8 from the field and also had 8 turnovers. She finished the game with a plus/minus rating of -13, which was the worst mark on the Dream.

The two-time All-Star’s move from the Chicago Sky to the Dream was one of the biggest moves during the WNBA offseason. The organization believes Reese is the missing piece to help a talented core finally compete for a championship. Reese is averaging 10.7 points and 12.7 rebounds per game for the 2-1 Dream.

Reese’s critics, like Whitlock, will likely focus on her currently being one of the league’s leaders in turnovers and her 33.3% field goal percentage. A prolific rebounder, Reese broke the WNBA record during her rookie season in 2024, something Whitlock believes she receives too much credit for.

Ultimately, Whitlock is annoyed by the frequent comparisons between Reese and rival Caitlin Clark. The two All-Stars are linked thanks their on-court confrontations and statuses as two of the WNBA’s most promoted stars. There’s strong belief from Whitlock and others that Reese should not be mentioned in the same class as Clark, as they believe the Fever superstar is a far superior player.

Performances like Reese’s most recent game will only strengthen that belief. Reese already entered the season under pressure after the breakup with the Sky organization. The pressure will only increase if Reese has more struggles.
