Amazon is Making Reading Magazines Through Kindle Unlimited Worse

Reading magazines is (was?) one of the secret superpowers of Kindle Unlimited. The selection was good, reading quotas generous, and delivery automatic. Two of those things are getting worse this month:

Automatic delivery is ending: Only the issues you select will be added to your Library. Automatic delivery of future issues will no longer be available.

Magazines will count towards your 20-borrow limit: Magazines will share the 20-borrow limit with all other Kindle Unlimited content.

I am not sure what competitors there are: I use Apple News for a lot of magazine reading, but I am also not a Kindle (the device) heavy user.

Bookstore Hosting Rare Books Scavenger Hunt

Pretty rare anymore for me to see an indie bookstore event/activity that gets my attention, but “rare books scavenger hunt” apparently does it. The Next Chapter bookstore in Huntington, NY is hosting an event where they are hiding rare books around the store with a special $10 price per book, where the regular price would be $150 or more. If you find it, you have the choice to buy it. Fun. Makes me wonder if bookstores have done straight up easter egg hunts for kids in their….oh wait, The Next Chapter is doing that as well.
