Sokoto: Commissioner gives update on meningitis outbreak

Patients affected by the suspected meningitis outbreak in Kurawa village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, are responding to treatment, the state Commissioner for Health, Faruk Abubakar Wurno, has said.

Speaking with Daily Trust, Wurno said the state government had mobilised health workers to the affected community, adding that medical teams were actively managing cases and implementing necessary response measures to contain the outbreak.

He also disclosed that the deputy governor had earlier visited the area to assess the situation and engage with health officials as well as residents.

“The deputy governor informed me this morning that there is significant progress,” the commissioner said, noting that ongoing interventions are beginning to yield positive results.

According to him, residents have been cooperating with health personnel and have expressed satisfaction with the response efforts so far.

Daily Trust had reported how the suspected outbreak claimed several lives in the village.
