Nnadozie reacts bluntly to WAFCON postponement

Super Falcons and Brighton & Hove Albion Women goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed her frustration following the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Confederation of African Football announced the sudden postponement just days before the tournament was scheduled to kick off, a decision that has sparked widespread disappointment among players, officials, and fans.

Speaking to The Guardian in the United Kingdom, Nnadozie did not hide her displeasure over the development, describing the situation as frustrating and poorly communicated.

“We, the players, are not happy about it,” she said bluntly. “We don’t know the reason behind it … we were all prepared. We left our clubs, hoping to go to the WAFCON.”

The former Rivers Angels shot-stopper also highlighted the personal impact of the postponement, noting that several of her family members had already made travel arrangements to support her during the competition.

“I know the fans are angry, the people are angry.

“It’s frustrating for me too because some of my family members already got their tickets, some had already applied for a visa,” she added.

The postponement has raised questions about planning and communication within African football’s governing structures, with stakeholders now awaiting further clarification from CAF regarding a new date for the tournament.
