Indonesia and Palestine plant olive tree in Budapest to mark Land Day and Signal Solidarity

To commemorate Land Day (Yom al-Ard), the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Budapest, in collaboration with the Embassy of the State of Palestine, held a symbolic olive tree planting ceremony at the Indonesian Ambassador’s Residence (Wisma Duta) on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

The event represents Indonesia’s support and solidarity with the Palestinian people. Land Day, observed annually on March 30, marks the 1976 events in Galilee, where Palestinian land were forcibly seized by illegal settlers.

A Symbol of Resilience and Peace

The olive tree, with its legendary resilience and timeless symbolism of peace, mirrors the very spirit of the Palestinian struggle for justice and dignity.

The ceremony was attended by among others Friends of Palestine community in Hungary, Representatives of Indonesian community as well as Ambassadors of ASEAN Embassies.

A commemorative plaque was placed featuring a quote from Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, which reaffirms the inherent value of Palestinian land:

“On this earth, there is that which deserves life.”

A Shared Hope for Justice

Indonesia remains committed to supporting the independence of the State of Palestine in accordance with the two-state solution.
