Kelechi Iheanacho has shared his delight after playing a decisive role in Celtic’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Hibernian on Sunday, a result that keeps the title race in the Scottish Premiership finely balanced, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles forward, introduced in the 70th minute with the game tied, wasted no time in making his mark. Just two minutes after coming on, Iheanacho found the back of the net with a composed finish, sealing all three points for Celtic at Easter Road.

The former Leicester City man’s goal proved to be the difference in a tense contest and lifted the Hoops level on points with league leaders Heart of Midlothian FC, who still have a game in hand.

Speaking after the match, Iheanacho could not hide his joy at making such an important contribution.

“I’m really pleased, I’m happy to be an impact in the game. For my teammates and for the club,” Kelechi Iheanacho said in an interview with Sky Sports Scotland after his important goal.

The 29-year-old, who joined Celtic as a free agent in 2025, has been in fine form in recent weeks, scoring four goals in his last five matches. His ability to deliver in key moments is becoming increasingly important as the season approaches its decisive stage.

“I’m always ready, whether I’m starting or coming on. Need to just get my head straight, great finish. We win the game, three points, it’s important for us going forward.”

Soccer Kelechi Iheanacho: Impact off the bench keeps Celtic’s title hopes alive

Celtic started the game strongly, controlling possession and creating chances from the opening minutes. Their task appeared to become easier in the 21st minute when Jamie McGrath was shown a straight red card, reducing Hibernian to ten men for most of the match.

Despite the numerical advantage, Celtic had to remain patient. Their breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when Daizen Maeda scored from close range to make it 1-0. However, Hibernian responded quickly, with Joe Newell equalising just minutes later to send the teams into the break level.

The second half became a test of patience and movement for Celtic, as they looked to break down a stubborn Hibernian side sitting deep.

“We need patience to move them side to side, to create the chances and the space. We did that and we scored through a set-piece. That’s what matters,” Iheanacho added.

The former Sevilla striker’s introduction midway through the second half changed the rhythm of the game. Replacing Yang Hyun-jun, Iheanacho brought fresh energy and sharpness to the attack, and his quick goal ultimately decided the contest.

The victory extends Celtic’s winning run to five matches across all competitions and keeps them firmly in the title race. With just three games remaining, they face a challenging run-in, including clashes against Rangers, Motherwell, and Hearts.
