USA’s Patrick Agyemang out of World Cup with Achilles injury

April 7 (UPI) — United States National Team striker Patrick Agyemang will miss the 2026 World Cup due to a serious Achilles tendon injury, Derby County announced Tuesday.

Agyemang was hurt during the first half of the Rams’ 2-0 win over Stoke City on Monday in Derby, England. He did not play in the second half.

“The club will provide Patrick with the highest level of medical care and rehabilitation throughout his recovery,” the Rams said.

“Everyone at Derby County is fully behind Patrick at this difficult time and will continue to support him every step of the way.”

The Rams did not provide a timeline for Agyemang’s potential return. They sit in eighth place in the Championship standings.

The Rams will take on Southampton on Saturday in Southampton.

The U.S. men will face Senegal in a friendly May 31 in Charlotte, N.C. They will meet Germany in another friendly June 6 in Chicago.

The Americans will play Paraguay in their World Cup opener June 12 in Inglewood, Calif.

Agyemamg, who debuted last year for the Americans, scored six goals over 14 appearances.
