US Iran Israel War Ceasefire Live News Updates: United States President Donald Trump is examining a fresh proposal of Iran aimed at halting ongoing hostilities and reopening the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.

The plan, currently under review by Trump and his national security team, suggests deferring discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme to a later stage while prioritising de-escalation.

The Iranian plan focuses on an immediate cessation of conflict and restoring maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg. Following the meeting, Araghchi indicated that Tehran is evaluating a US request to resume negotiations, suggesting cautious movement towards diplomatic engagement.

Amid rising tensions, the United Nations has called for the “urgent and unimpeded reopening” of the Strait of Hormuz. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres cautioned that the ongoing standoff could disrupt global supply chains and potentially trigger a food security crisis.

Despite an April 17 ceasefire, hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah persist. Israeli strikes in Lebanon have resulted in at least 40 fatalities since the truce was announced, Al Jazeera reported.
