Afrobeats star Omah Lay don drop one big statement wey don cause plenty talk for music industry. For one interview with NandoLeaks podcast, the singer declare say na him be the best Nigerian artiste wey don show for the last 20 years. Him talk say only Burna Boy dey near am for level.

“I no wan dey brag too much, but na me be the best for this thing,” Omah Lay yarn. “When you put all the Afrobeats artiste together… for the matter of art, like making music, na me be the best for the last 20 years. Maybe the only person wey I sometimes put myself together with na Burna Boy.”

The 28-year-old artiste, wey real name na Omah Stanley Didia, talk this matter as him dey prepare to release him new album wey dem call Clarity of Mind. The album suppose drop April 3, 2026. Omah Lay yarn say this new project na the greatest Afrobeats album wey ever exist.

This no be the first time Omah Lay dey talk like this. For 2025, him don already describe himself as the greatest for him generation. Him promise say the new album go prove wetin him dey talk.

But the road to this album release no smooth at all. For 2024, Omah Lay reveal say him don cancel one earlier version of the project. Him talk say one fellow artiste use one sound wey him share. The matter make him start everything again from scratch.

Since that time, him don release some singles wey go enter the album. Holyghost come out for 2024, then Waist for 2025, and Don’t Love Me. All these tracks go dey inside the 12-track album.

Omah Lay explain say Clarity of Mind reflect him personal experiences. The album go touch matters like mental health and relationships. Him talk say, just like him first album Boy Alone, this new one go show deep thinking and emotional matters.

“This album na my most honest work,” the singer yarn. “E go stand as one defining moment for Nigerian pop music of our time.”

For the same NandoLeaks interview, Omah Lay open up about him personality. Him talk say him get “weird personality” wey make am hard to make plenty friends for music industry.

“I believe say I just be that guy,” him talk. “So I no get plenty friends. I no dey talk to plenty people. Just very few people wey try to enter my world and understand where I dey go.”

The singer add say the Nigerian music scene full of ego. “I be chill guy but I get too much ego. E hard to make friends like that,” Omah Lay confess.

Meanwhile, for other news, Telecel Ghana Music Awards don release three more categories for their 2026 awards. Charterhouse, wey dey organize the awards, announce Group of the Year, Music for Good, and Best African Song categories.

For Best African Song category, some nominees include “Laho II” by Shallipopi and Burna Boy, “Kelebu” by Rema, and “With You” by Davido featuring Omah Lay. Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications for Charterhouse, talk say dem dey plan to bring back Group of the Year category for the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Omah Lay recent statement come after him face one small setback for 2026 Grammy Awards. Him collaboration with Davido for song “With You” lose for Best African Music Performance category to South African star Tyla.
