Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika has handed Club Brugge a major boost after recovering from an injury scare sustained during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to league rivals Royale Union SG on Sunday, April 19, Soccernet.ng reports

Onyedika had put in a solid shift until the 63rd minute when he hit the turf and was forced off for Hans Vanaken. While the early prognosis looked grim, Club Brugge has since issued a positive update on the former Midtjylland star.

Ahead of Thursday’s league playoff against KV Mechelen, Onyedika was included in the matchday squad announced on Tuesday.

His inclusion confirms that the injury was merely a minor knock, and he has been cleared by the club’s medical staff. However, it remains to be seen whether coach Ivan Leko will restore him to the starting XI or introduce him from the bench.

Onyedika has been a key player in the middle of the park for the Blau-Zwart this term, appearing in 38 matches across all competitions. His ability to read the game, reliable pressing, and work rate has been key ingredients of his game that has seen him maintain a starting shirt at the club.

His presence will be vital as the title race intensifies over the next five weeks. Club Brugge currently trail defending champions Royale Union SG by just four points. But there are still seven games remaining to bridge the gap.

Soccer A Crucial Summer Awaits Raphael Onyedika

As the campaign draws to a close, Raphael Onyedika’s future at the Jan Breydel Stadium hangs in the balance. Since arriving in 2022, the Nigerian international has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Jupiler Pro League.

His impressive performances have attracted top suitors. The likes of West Ham, Wolfsburg, and Borussia Mönchengladbach have been linked with the midfielder over the past year, but no formal bids have materialized yet.

The clock, however, is ticking for Club Brugge. With just over a year remaining on his current contract, the club faces a difficult choice: sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Having conquered the Belgian top flight, Onyedika will be keen on a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues, and this upcoming window may finally provide the platform for his big-money move.
