Businesses, community groups invited to collaborate to Defeat Depression

The annual Defeat Depression walk goes May 23 this year, and the Mood Disorders Society invites businesses, organizations and community groups to register and participate this year under a renewed collaborative model

The annual Defeat Depression walk goes May 23 this year, and the Mood Disorders Society has found a new way for businesses, organizations and community groups to get involved.

The annual walk in Bell Park is sponsored by the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, with the proceeds going to help support organizations that provide mental health and wellness services in Greater Sudbury.

After more than a decade, the society said in a news release it is unveiling a new way for businesses, organizations and community groups to get involved.

“In 2026, we are introducing a renewed, collaborative model that invites all local organizations and community groups to register and participate,” the society said in a news release. “The event will raise much-needed funds to support local mental health-related services and programs that promote mental health awareness.”

There are two ways businesses and organizations can get involved in the campaign: Direct support of the event through sponsorship or tax-deductible donation, and by forming a team and registering on the Defeat Depression event website.

“Set your challenge and your staff can sign up on your team page and have their own page that they can then share with their family and friends to raise some funds to support mental health!” the release states. “It is a fun, team-building exercise with real impact!”

To get involved, visit Sudbury.DefeatDepression.ca to register a team or to contact the Mood Disorder Society to access a sponsorship package for businesses. Sponsorships are not eligible for a tax receipt (as per CRA rules, due to the associated benefits), while donations are tax-deductible.
