Team USA began its 2026 World Baseball Classic pool play by taking on Brazil on Friday night. The United States dominated its two tune-up exhibition games, while Brazil lost both of theirs, leading many to believe the game was going to be a blowout.

While the final score shows that the U.S. won 15-5, the game was only 8-5 entering the ninth inning. Team USA batted around thanks to the wild pitching from Brazil and plated seven runs in the ninth inning to earn the 10-run win.

Aaron Judge only had one hit in the win, but it was a big two-run home run in the first inning to put the U.S. up early. Brice Turang was productive out of the nine-hole with three hits and four RBI. Logan Webb pitched four innings, allowing one run and striking out five on his way to earning the win.

Brazil didn’t have too many positives in the blowout loss. Lucas Ramirez, son of Manny Ramirez, had two home runs in the loss. 17-year-old high school pitcher Joseph Contreras got Aaron Judge to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded in the second inning. Otherwise, if Brazil has any hopes of making it out of pool play, they will have to calm down on the mound. It is hard to win a baseball game while issuing 17 walks.

He ended up hitting Carmo and the ball kicked off of him and went toward the dugout, allowing Carmo to make it safely to second.

No harm came from the error as Carvalho struck out swinging.

    Top of the 6th inning

    USA 2, Brazil 0

8:18 p.m. — Witt hit a ball that barely bounced over the pitcher, and he used his speed to beat out a single to begin the game. Harper worked a full count, but struck out. On the strikeout pitch, Witt swiped second. With first base open, Takahashi worked around Judge and got into a 3-0 count. He hung a breaking ball, and Judge made him pay for it, blasting a two-run home run into left-center.

    Pre-Game

8:10 p.m. — It is game time and Team USA will bat first.

7:58 p.m. — It will be interesting to see how long Webb pitches. With the starters still working up to their regular-season workloads, don’t be shocked if they only pitch a handful of innings before the bullpen gets active.

7:38 p.m. — We are about 20 minutes away from first pitch. In the U.S., the game will air on Fox.

6:49 p.m. — The United States and Brazil have matched up seven times at the professional level since 1999. Team USA has won all seven.

6:09 p.m. — Here is how Brazil will line up behind Takahashi.

5:42 p.m. — The USA will start Giants ace Logan Webb. Last year, he went 15-11 with a 3.22 ERA and 224 strikeouts. His high punch-out total ranked as the third-most in the MLB for the 2025 season.

Brazil will counter with Bo Takahashi. He is a right-hander who spent the 2025 season in the Japanese Professional League. Over 23 games, he amassed a 2-5 record with a 3.66 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 64 innings.

4:42 p.m. — Here is how Team USA will lineup for the WBC opener against Brazil with Logan Webb on the bump.
