Music From Work to Western: 5 Things to Buy From the Lee x J.Crew Collab

Lee and J.Crew are proving that good denim never goes out of style, with the two iconic American brands coming together for a historic capsule collaboration.

The Lee x J.Crew Collection features men’s and women’s jeans, jackets, Western shirts and skirts, combining Lee’s more-than 137-year-old denim heritage with J.Crew’s preppy East Coast style. While both brands have been staples in American wardrobes for years, this is the first time Lee and J.Crew have teamed up in any sort of capacity.

Lee has long been a favorite of both stylish stars and down-home musicians alike, with the brand having been seen on everyone from Joe Jonas to Carrie Underwood, and featuring Midland singer Mark Wystrach as the face of its collection with Buck Mason last year. Bruce Springsteen also famously sported a Lee jean jacket with the sleeves cut off on his 1984 Rolling Stone cover.

Now, the denim brand is reworking its iconic pieces and silhouettes with J.Crew’s clean and contemporary flair. As J.Crew creative director Olympia Gayot puts it, “Lee represents an essential part of American denim heritage. At J.Crew, my goal was to honor that legacy while refining it through our lens — polished but relaxed, thoughtful but unfussy,” she says in a press release. “We focused on pieces that feel authentic and enduring, the kind of wardrobe staples you reach for instinctively and keep for years. It’s about respecting heritage while making it feel relevant now.”

Lee x J.Crew Storm Rider Jacket

One of the hero pieces of the new collection is this Storm Rider Jacket, which is inspired by a 1950s jacket from the Lee archives. Made from a cotton denim, and available in classic blue or this “vintage white” colorway, the jacket features a corduroy collar, slant chest pockets and a plaid lining that was designed exclusively for this collaboration.

You can also get the jacket in a classic medium wash blue denim material. Both colorways give off a vintage, Seventies vibe, with the corduroy collar and tartan plaid lining elevating the jacket from rugged workwear to an occasion-appropriate pick.

Lee x J.Crew Japanese Selvedge Denim Straight Jean

Lee is a denim pioneer in the U.S. so it’s no surprise that the brand’s J.Crew jeans collab is selling out quickly online. This one features a straight leg and a 13.75-ounce selvedge material sourced from the Kaihara mill in Japan, one of the largest denim makers in the world. The under-$200 price point is a solid price for a pair of well-made selvedge jeans, which will only soften and wear-in with age.

Lee x J.Crew Oxford Western Shirt

This oxford shirt is perhaps the best representation of both brands in one piece. The classic button-down shirt is a J.Crew staple but it’s given a Western-twist with yoke stitching at the back, angled chest pockets and snap-button closures. This is a shirt you could wear to the office, or with jeans and boots to the rodeo. The shirt is available in this blue stripe pattern or a “daffodil” faded yellow.

Women’s Lee x J.Crew Storm Rider Denim Jacket

The women’s collection from the Lee x J.Crew collab also includes a Storm Rider jacket, though this one features a slightly cropped (or “shrunken”) fit. The women’s jacket features a blue and white stripe poplin lining on the interior, rather than the plaid lining seen on the men’s jacket.

Lee x J.Crew Denim Skirt

You can find women’s jeans as part of the Lee and J.Crew collab but the collection also includes this classic denim skirt, which is currently available on the J.Crew website. Available in this “vintage” medium wash at right or a white colorway online, the piece features a pencil skirt silhouette that hits just above the knee. This is also a piece that can go from work to western when styled with the right accessories (think heels and a blazer for the office and a buckle belt, cowboy hat and boots for Stagecoach).

The brands say the collection “brings together two distinct points of view with one shared story in denim. Drawing from Lee’s legacy of timeless style and J.Crew’s East Coast sensibility, the collection offers a modern take on American classics.”
