Jubilation in Sokoto as Ajiya emerges APC Chairman

There was widespread jubilation on Tuesday in Sokoto, the Seat of the Caliphate, following the emergence of Alhaji Haruna Ajiya as the new State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Ajiya was elected alongside 35 other executive members through a unanimous consensus, which was later affirmed by a voice vote at the APC State Congress. Many party members described him as a man of integrity, humility, and wide acceptance across the state.

Speaking after the exercise, a party loyalist from Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Isa, praised the leadership for its careful selection of candidates.

“We are pleased that the leadership of the APC in Sokoto are very careful in electing those that will pilot the affairs of the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Hon. Haruna Ajiya, the newly elected chairman of the party is one individual whose simplicity is legendary.

“His honestly is top notch and his massive political acceptability is an added advantage to the party ahead of 2027. Simply put, with Haruna Ajiya, APC has won the 2027 Presidential, Governorship and all other elections in Sokoto already already,” he enthused.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Ajiya expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him.

“We acknowledge the trust reposed in us and by the special grace of Almighty Allah, we pledge to work tirelessly, retain our mandate, deliver on our promises and not let the party down,” he assured.

Announcing the newly elected executives, the Chairman of the APC National Organising Committee, Muftaz Musa, said the congress was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and under the supervision of officials of the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

He explained that the exercise was empowered by Article 20, Subsection 1, of the party’s constitution.

Professor Muftaz officially announced the 36-member executive committee, with Alhaji Haruna Ajiya as Chairman, Hon. Yahaya Buhari as Deputy Chairman, Barrister Bello Abdullahi as Secretary, Hassan Dangote as Zonal Vice Chairman (North), and Hajiya Rabi Garba as State Women Leader, among others.

Earlier, in his welcome and valedictory address, the outgoing State Chairman, Isa Achida, said party leaders were delighted with the progress recorded under the current administration.

He credited their political leader, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, for providing the state with a governor who has delivered on expectations.

“Today, the visible dividends of democracy seen across the State is something of immense pride to all of us and a testament that Sokoto has a working governor,” Achida said.
