Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Tillman, McKennie, and more

Soccer

Bayer Leverkusen remains alive for a top-four Bundesliga spot this season and a road win over title-chasing Borussia Dortmund could do their hopes a world of good.

Malik Tillman and his Leverkusen teammates will visit Signal Iduna Park in the headlining contest of the weekend’s slate. Tillman most recently netted his eighth goal of the season in all competitions as Kasper Hjulmand’s squad defeated Wolfsburg 6-3 last weekend.

The former Bayern Munich product has continued to play an important role for Bayer Leverkusen, helping the club remain in the top-four race. Whether it’s in the starting lineup or off the bench, Tillman always looks ready to make an impact.

Borussia Dortmund claimed a 2-1 road win at the BayArena back in November, but Leverkusen will be confident after knocking the Black and Yellow out of the DFB Pokal in December.

Bayer Leverkusen will enter the weekend four points out of the top-four, knowing there’s little room for error with several teams fighting for a UEFA Champions League spot.

In England, Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United visit Manchester United to close the league’s weekend slate. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace host Newcastle United. Haji Wright and Coventry City welcome Sheffield Wednesday to town, seeking to officially book their place back into the Premier League.

In Italy, Weston McKennie and Juventus visit Atalanta in Serie A play. Christian Pulisic and AC Milan host Udinese.

In Spain, Alex Freeman and Villarreal take a trip to Athletic Bilbao as La Liga play continues.

In Germany, Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach take on RB Leipzig in Bundesliga action. Kristoffer Lund and FC Koln face off with Werder Bremen.

In France, Folarin Balogun and Monaco visit Paris FC in Ligue 1 play. Tim Weah and Marseille face off with Metz while Tanner Tessmann and Lyon host Lorient.

Elsewhere, Auston Trusty and Celtic host St. Mirren for the first of two matchups over the next two weeks.
