Taiwan Rolls Out Film, TV Projects at Hong Kong FilMart as Its Creative Content Agency Courts Global Partners

As Hong Kong FilMart and the Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum get underway, Taiwan is rolling out a lineup of film and television projects led by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), highlighting the territory’s growing ambitions in international co-production and global distribution.

Two titles headline the Taiwan Spotlight Showcase on March 18, each offering a distinct creative vision to international buyers and partners while underscoring the diversity and vitality of Taiwan’s screen industry.

The TV series “Addicted” stars box office draw Yi-Han Chen alongside Harry Chang and Sam Lin, and is produced by a team behind previous Taiwanese hits that surpassed TWD100 million (about $3.2 million) at the local box office. The series examines different forms of addiction through multiple characters, spanning themes from crime and social issues to coming-of-age elements.

Following “Addicted,” the narrative feature “Haru and Tae” marks another highlight of the showcase. Directed by Japanese filmmaker Akira Ikeda, the project previously drew attention in 2022 when it received the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion – Vision Award. Starring Taiwanese actors Kuan-Ting Liu and Ke-Fang Sun, the film uses a fantasy-driven narrative to explore themes of family and generational ties.

Both projects will present exclusive first-look materials, including never-before-seen stills and footage at the Taiwan Spotlight. The directors and main cast will also be present to share insights and stories from the productions.

Taiwan will also maintain a strong presence at FilMart, with its pavilion hosting 106 companies showcasing 242 titles across diverse genres, with Taiwanese talents displaying singular voices and international ambition. Notable entries include Taiwan’s first single-shot horror film, “Suffocation,” which has been selected for the 2026 Cinequest Film Festival – Horror, Thriller & Fantasy Feature Competition. The feature “I Blew Out the Candles Before Making a Wish” explores themes of money, family and responsibility.

The romantic comedy “Labour of love” explores contemporary relationships and the complexities of love and commitment in today’s society. The documentary “Ripple” offers a grounded look at life in Bengbu, China, following fishermen and their families who have left the water to rebuild their lives on land. The project was selected for the 2024 Feature-Length Documentary Program of the China Film Foundation – Women Filmmakers Special Fund.

Taiwan is highlighting its international co-productions at HAF. Topping the slate is “Mama Mia Let Me Go!” (Hong Kong/South Korea/Taiwan), selected for the In-Development Project (IDP) program, alongside three other works-in-progress aiming for post-production funding.

“Many projects, films and TV series gain valuable exposure at FilMart and the chance to be discovered by international festivals, which can lead to future selections and wider global recognition,” TAICCA chair Sue Wang says. “The market also serves as an important starting point for the year’s international engagement. If Taiwanese projects build stronger market traction, form new partnerships and attract interest from festivals and global partners, that would represent a meaningful outcome for Taiwanese content.”

Wang adds,“Through the Creative Content Development Program (CCDP) and Taiwan’s International Co-Funding Program 2.0 (TICP 2.0), TAICCA participates in projects as an investor rather than a grantor.”

The Taiwan Pavilion is supported by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, offering a platform to showcase Taiwanese creative talent internationally.
