Cowboys Headlines: Cowboys eyeing Eagles LB? Defensive changes taking shape, combine news

Feb. 27, 2026, 5:05 a.m. CT

Cowboys fans wondered if Christian Parker would bring any of his former Eagles with him after being named the new defensive coordinator in Dallas. It may be happening soon, as veteran linebacker Nakobe Dean is now expected to be a potential Cowboys target when free agency begins in two weeks.

But that’s not the only defensive news to share from a busy Thursday. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that linebacker Marist Liufau is being moved to an edge rusher position in Parker’s new scheme, and player personnel boss Will McClay opened up about how the team’s scouts are shopping for the new coordinator’s rookie class. And be on the lookout for some financial maneuvering as the Cowboys decide what to do about Kenny Clark’s oversized cap hit.

Brandon Aubrey’s contract saga took another turn, with the team apparently ready to draw a second-round line in the sand… and Schottenheimer detailed what that phone call was like with Nick Sirianni as the Eagles tried to lure away OC Klayton Adams for an interview.

At the combine, some news around names that have been linked to the Cowboys. Jermod McCoy says he won’t work out yet, making it well over a year since anyone has seen him do anything football-related. David Bailey turned in a blistering 40 time, Caleb Downs declared himself the best defender in the draft, and Rueben Bain Jr. is fighting back against those who think his arms are two inches too short to be a top pick.

Around the league, Tyler Biadasz won’t be in anymore soup commercials with Jayden Daniels; the Commanders have cut the former Cowboys center. The Jets and Titans made a pre-free-agency swap of players, the Colts have told quarterback Anthony Richardson he can look for a team who wants to trade for him, and the 49ers may get a little help on the back end of their 2026 schedule as payback for their brutal travel early. And remember those NFLPA report cards that weren’t going to be made public anymore? Yep, they’ve been leaked.
