A former Kogi governorship aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Saidu Ugonoh, has urged Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 to consolidate what he described as far-reaching and courageous reforms already yielding results.

Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Ugonoh said President Tinubu had embarked on “audacious but necessary reforms” aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy and governance structure, arguing that a second term would ensure stability and continuity.

“If Mr. President has taken us on this audacious reform route that is already bearing fruit, why listen to fair-weather coalition politicians who seek to consign us to a path of continued economic potential but no realisation?” he asked.

The APC stalwart maintained that the current administration’s reform agenda requires time and policy consistency to achieve full impact, stressing that abrupt political shifts could undermine ongoing gains.

Taking a swipe at opposition figures forming alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, Ugonoh described them as “politicians with no political home,” alleging that they frequently switch parties and form new platforms every election cycle.

He specifically mentioned prominent opposition figures, including Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, arguing that they had “nothing new to offer” beyond what he termed a “vindictive coalition.”

According to him, Nigerians should be cautious about political realignments driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.

Ugonoh also called on sub-national governments to align policies with the Federal Government to maximise the benefits of ongoing reforms, particularly in areas affecting citizens’ welfare.

On party loyalty, he urged APC members to remain steadfast even if they feel overlooked in appointments.

“Remain loyal to the President even in the face of appointment disappointments,” he said, presenting himself as an example of commitment to party ideals without holding public office.

The Santuraki of Ebira land emphasised that the APC “remains the party to beat,” and encouraged its members to resist what he termed “fair-weather political shenanigans.”

The interview, which touched on the Electoral Act, national political dynamics, and emerging coalition talks ahead of 2027, underscored the growing debate over the direction of Nigeria’s political future and the sustainability of the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda.
