Cowboys news: Myles Garrett trade fever hits Cowboys fans

The Cowboys have the picks to make a move for Myles Garrett.

Cowboys’ unique mock offer

Cowboys get: EDGE Myles Garrett

Browns get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 12 overall), 2026 first-round pick (No. 20 overall)

Little says two first-round picks and a player. That may be too much for the Cowboys as they don’t really have a player that’s easy to trade. That was Odighizuwa and he’s gone for that very reason. But I don’t think they’d need to include a player on a deal for Garrett.

That’s because they have two first-round picks in the Top 20. And in a year in which many question the class of draft prospects, it’s the perfect chance to go all in. Sure, the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets also have two first-round picks but it’s unlikely Garrett would green light such a move.

In other words, the Cowboys are the only team who can realistically offer the Browns a chance to have four first-round picks in this year’s draft. Why not bust the budget in the best defender in the league?

Could the Cowboys look to trade up in the 2026 NFL draft?

A new report on an upcoming meeting between the Dallas Cowboys and a top NFL Draft prospect seems to open the door for a trade up in Round 1 of next month’s event.

After a frustrating 7-9-1 finish to the 2025 season, the Cowboys will look to further improve their roster at April’s draft. While last season was ugly at times, the one pro of a down year is a premium pick next month, and Dallas will specifically be on the clock at 12th overall in Round 1. Furthermore, they also have the 20th pick after landing it in a trade last season.

Over the last few weeks, various mock drafts have linked them to LSU corner Mansoor Delane, Auburn EDGE Keldric Faulk, and Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman. Strong prospects, but not the best of the best in the 2026 class from college football. However, it seems the team may be contemplating going over a top-five level player in Round 1.

Dallas Cowboys interested in trading up for Sonny Styles?

During a Thursday appearance on Up and Adams, Ohio State star linebacker Sonny Styles revealed that of the teams he is set to meet with in the coming days, the Cowboys are one of them.

Styles was viewed as a potential top 10 pick earlier this year. However, his outstanding showing at the NFL Combine last month increased his stock considerably. Now, some mock drafts have him going as No. 2 to the New York Jets — a team Styles recently met with — and No. 3 to the Arizona Cardinals.

Caleb Downs falling to 12 is picking up steam.

Dallas Cowboys Could Be in Position to Land Ohio State DB Caleb Downs

Per NFL Network’s draft insider Daniel Jeremiah, Ohio State Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs could be falling down the board in first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which would allow for the Cowboys to potentially make him their top selection next month.

“I wouldn’t give up hope on Downs (for Dallas),” Jeremiah said on 105.3 The Fan. “ … I would not, I would not put that one to rest just yet.”

Jeremiah said that Downs’ slight fall in the first round is a possibility due to the growing way that the safety position is being undervalued along with some of the shortcomings that the Ohio State star possesses.

“Weird stuff happens in the safety position. I don’t agree with it, but it has been pushed down to some degree,” Jeremiah said. “And then with Downs, you’re looking at someone who’s not big, he’s under six feet, he’s a little over 200 pounds. He’s got short arms. He doesn’t have a ton of splash plays.”

The Cowboys had a large showing at the Texas Tech pro day.

LUBBOCK, Texas – With just 28 days to go before the NFL Draft, teams are entering the closing stages of the player evaluation process for the 2026 class that has lasted for well over a year.

The Cowboys’ work on the pro day circuit to gather more information on draft prospects continued Thursday at Texas Tech University, the third Texas school in as many days that head coach Brian Schottenheimer has attended following Texas on Tuesday and Texas A&M on Wednesday.

Schottenheimer led a Cowboys contingent in Lubbock that also included defensive coordinator Christian Parker, VP of player personnel Will McClay, director of college scouting Mitch LaPoint and pass rush specialist consultant BT Jordan.

Defense is a clear need for Dallas going into the draft, and the Red Raiders were far from short of defensive talent in 2025, finishing as the third-best total defensive unit in college football last season.

The defensive headliners were OLB David Bailey, who has been projected widely as a top-five pick, LB Jacob Rodriguez, OLB Romello Height and DT Lee Hunter among others. Rodriguez said following pro day that he had dinner with the Cowboys on Wednesday night, which Hunter was also in attendance at, adding he “loved all the conversations and [is] looking forward to more.”

Plenty of conversations happen at pro days between players and coaches/scouts, as well as coaches and other coaches. That was the case for Schottenheimer, who caught up with three fellow NFL head coaches in the Bengals’ Zac Taylor, Jets’ Aaron Glenn, and Saints’ Kellen Moore. Former Cowboys defensive line coach and current Titans defensive run game coordinator/DL coach Aaron Whitecotton was also in attendance. Chiefs QB and Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes made an appearance as well.

Bailey, Height, Hunter and Rodriguez all did not participate in athletic testing outside of bench press and focused more on their positional workouts in front of NFL scouts. When Bailey, Height and Hunter were doing their respective drills, Schottenheimer was front and center watching with a keen eye. Rodriguez did not participate in position drills.
