March 07, (THEWILL) — Liverpool claimed a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fifth round at Molineux, progressing to the quarter-finals just days after suffering an English Premier League defeat at the same ground.
The opening half produced very little of note. Wolves failed to register a single shot throughout the entire 45 minutes, while Gakpo struck the post for Liverpool, though the effort was rendered void by an offside call.
Robertson broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half, receiving the ball around 25 yards from goal before sending a powerful drive into the bottom-right corner. It was the left-back’s first Liverpool goal struck from beyond the penalty area, and Johnstone in the Wolves goal had no chance of keeping it out.
Salah doubled the advantage two minutes later, turning Robertson’s cross over the line after VAR overturned an initial offside ruling. Jones then put the result beyond question in the 74th minute, drifting past two challenges before curling a composed finish past Johnstone with his left foot.
Hwang Hee-chan’s stoppage-time effort offered the hosts a late consolation, but Liverpool’s passage to the last eight was never genuinely threatened following a dominant second-half showing at Molineux.
