The Beyoncé co-signed artist taps into retro-futurism on an affirmation-heavy work.

Dutch-born, American singer-songwriter Leven Kali today unveils his new album ‘LK99’, out via Def Jam Recordings.
The 11-track collection comprises Kali’s most sonically adventurous music to date; a carousel of sun-soaked funk, disco and cosmic soul notes permeating a work that moves from rousing anthems to interior notes on life and love.
Thematically, ‘LK99’ represents a anchor, a tether, for the world to latch onto in times of instability. The number 9 carries a special significance for Kali due to its frequent presence in theology, science, and life itself. It represents a cycle coming to completion before starting over again at zero.
About the album, Leven shared: “LK99 is a reminder for me of what is real in my life. It’s so important to find the things for yourself that ground you and make you feel human. For me, that’s love, nature, water, breathing, spirituality, and finding God through whatever way it is. Being aware of those pillars in my life has held me down during a time when our humanity is being challenged. You have to protect yourself and remind yourself that you are real and human. That’s the energy that I was bringing into making this album.”
Beyond his solo output, Leven Kali is a Grammy-winning artist best known as a producer and writer on Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ and ‘COWBOY CARTER’.
