Tottenham press conference LIVE – Bruno Saltor on Igor Tudor, Spurs future, Van de Ven sub and relegation – Football London

Assistant coach Bruno Saltor is holding his press conference after Tottenham’s 3-0 home defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ahead of the game, an estimated 10,000 Tottenham fans packed the High Road to welcome the team coach and they brought the noise for a huge relegation clash. However, despite a bright start, the players never matched that support.

The ball hit the woodwork early on when Forest striker Igor Jesus sent a header from a long Danso throw against his own crossbar. However, the Brazilian found the net at the other end against the run of play late in the first half when he got his head on the end of a Morgan Gibbs-White corner.

There was still time for Mathys Tel to have a shot pushed on to the crossbar by Matz Sels and Cristian Romero to be bundled over as he tried to head in the rebound. The official and VAR adjudged it was not a foul and the officials were booed off at the interval.

Tottenham started to look nervy in the second half and duly conceded around the hour mark when it was too easy for Callum Hudson-Odoi to get to the byline and he pulled it back for the unmarked Gibbs-White to fire through Vicario.

It became 3-0 when a deep cross from Neco Williams found the run of Taiwo Awoniyi to beat Danso and prod the ball home.

Igor Tudor will not be undertaking post-match media duties as he had been informed of the bereavement of an immediate family member and Saltor instead is speaking to reporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to Saltor after the defeat. Scroll down for his latest updates from the press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Can Spurs turn this around?

Completely. The best way to do it is focusing every day on doing your best, trying to be the best version of yourself, trying to push through difficulties, focusing on every action, not focussing on the end goal. It’s just focusing and giving your best every day.

That sounds a topic, but that’s the only thing that you can do. And players, obviously, as us, we need to reflect on ourselves and try to get the best version because we need it now.

Alasdair Gold

Was Van de Ven injured?

No, it was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic in the left side and have more legs going forward. And yeah, I thought that was like a tactical sub.

Alasdair Gold

On Igor Tudor

It’s a personal family issue and obviously it’s a difficult moment for him. I’m just trying to support the best way we can.

More on the game

I think in the small details, I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team. And again, I think any mistake that we make, any small detail goes against us and we’re not able to capitalise on the opposition’s mistakes. And probably that affected the team.

And that’s our job as coaches, to keep helping the players. And as you can see, the players, they care and they are 100% trying their best. But at the moment, it’s not enough.

We need to minimise any mistakes because we know that we’re going to concede a goal.

Alasdair Gold

On the fans

I thought they were outstanding from the first minute when we were coming in and to the last minute. They stayed, they showed their support. It was quite emotional for everyone on the bus and that’s what we need because right now, all of us, we have the same goal and that is to fight until the end of the season and stay in the Premier League as this club deserve.

Bruno Saltor is here

The players got affected by the rhythm of the game and we couldn’t find that rhythm to create more chances. The first half, the first 44 minutes I thought were good, really good, creating chances, getting into the box. In the second half, probably, we were unable to deal with the weight of the game.
