Bride Wars TV Show: All the Details About Emma Roberts’s Series Coming to Peacock

All is fair in love and Bride Wars.

On February 25, Deadline reported that Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway’s iconic buddy comedy from 2009 has been deemed a cinematic relic worthy of a television remake starring Emma Roberts. However, it seems the title is something borrowed for Peacock, as the actual description of the new show has little in common with the plot of the original friends-to-enemies-to-maid-of-honor storyline.

Here’s everything we know about the television version of Bride Wars starring Emma Roberts.

First, what was Bride Wars (2009)?

The OG bride wars centered on two best friends who share dreams of getting married at the Plaza Hotel in the month of June. However, Emma (Hathaway) and Liv’s (Hudson) friendship is tested when their dream weddings are scheduled for the same date. The film starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, whose fiancés were played by Steve Howey and Chris Pratt.

There’s also a romantic element involved between Emma and Liv’s brother Nate (Bryan Greenberg), but that wasn’t nearly as memorable as Emma’s sabotaged spray tan, which turned this millennial off the idea for years.

What is the plot of the new Bride Wars?

According to Deadline, the TV series is set in North Carolina and “follows a big-city wedding planner (Roberts) whose arrival in a small town sparks an epic showdown with a beloved local planner. As the two women battle to plan the same wedding, their rivalry quickly escalates into a larger clash over friendship, community, and, ultimately, love.”

Does this mean the wedding planners clash over a mutual love interest or fall in love with each other? Unclear, but I’m personally rooting for something more like Heated Rivalry: Wedding Planner Edition.

The cast of Bride Wars

Besides Roberts, the rest of the cast and characters is completely unknown. It should be noted that Emma is the niece of rom-com royalty Julia Roberts and has starred in a few of her own. Of course, you probably know her best as Chanel No. 1 in Scream Queens or for her various roles on American Horror Story.

Who is working behind the scenes?

Emmy Award winner Sascha Rothchild, who served as a co-executive producer on GLOW and The Bold Type, will write and executive produce this new project for Peacock.

Not only will Emma Roberts star in the series, but she will also serve as an executive producer. As the cofounder of Belletrist Productions, Roberts has spearheaded multiple literary adaptations like First Kill on Netflix and Tell Me Lies on Hulu. Now it seems Belletrist is expanding its horizons with a new source of inspiration alongside the lead studio New Regency and costudios 20th Television and UCP.

When does Bride Wars come out?

TBD!

This post will be updated.
