Google launches Gemini Personal Intelligence in the U.S.

Gemini on Pixel 9

Google is launching Personal Intelligence in beta, making Gemini more personal, proactive and powerful.

Personal Intelligence works first with apps like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, Search and more. When you turn on the feature, you control which apps to link to the feature. When opening Gemini, you’ll see a new option that reads “For you” which can activate the feature.

Behind the scenes, Personal Intelligence uses reasoning across sources and then retrieves details from an email or photo to answer your question, and can find this across text, photos and video.

Google also says that it built Personal Intelligence with privacy at the centre like being able to chose which apps that can connect to Personal Intelligence and you can turn it off at any time. Additionally, Google says that Gemini accesses your data to answer specific requests, which means it uses data that lives securely at Google — like your Google Photos. Gemini will also reference or explain the information it used to answer your questions, and you can tell it if a response feels off, and correct it on the go. For instance, if you’re looking for new tires and live in LA but travel to Northern Ontario each winter, it’ll pull information from your photos and suggest all-seasons tires or winter tires. It’ll then inform you it’s pulling some of its answer from Google Photos.

Google AI Pro or AI Ultra is needed for Personal Intelligence in the U.S. and is enabled across web, Android and iOS. This is in beta and not available for Workplace business, enterprise or education account users.

Google hasn’t announced an official Canadian release date, but it’s possible we’ll have to wait for when Personal Intelligence is out of beta.
