Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Tillman, Cardoso, and more

Bayer Leverkusen heads to North London on Tuesday seeking to claim a major scalp in UEFA Champions League play.

Malik Tillman will be fighting to start as Kasper Hjulmand’s squad takes on EPL leaders Arsenal in Round of 16 second leg action. The two clubs played out a 1-1 first leg draw in Leverkusen last week, with the visiting Gunners using a last-gasp penalty kick from Kai Havertz to pull level.

Tillman returned to action last week with a 16-minute substitute performance and was the guilty party in conceding the questionable spot kick against Eberechi Eze. He also played 90 minutes on Saturday in Leverkusen’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw with leaders Bayern Munich.

The 23-year-old has scored six goals in his first campaign with the club and could very well reach double-digits by season’s end. Although Arsenal hasn’t lost at home in close to two months, Bayer Leverkusen will throw everything they have to eliminate the tournament favorites in their own backyard.

Elsewhere, Johnny Cardoso and Atlético Madrid aim to see off Tottenham in Champions League play. Yunus Musah and Atalanta seek a miracle in their second leg trip to Bayern Munich. Serie B play continues for Gianluca Busio and Jonathan Klinsmann. Lindsey Heaps leads Lyon against Le Havre in Coupe De France action.
