Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Banks, Balogun, and more

Soccer

19-year-old Noahkai Banks is continuing to boost his chances of making the U.S. men’s national team’s World Cup roster.

Banks assisted once on Friday in Augsburg’s 2-0 home Bundesliga victory over FC Koln. The American centerback helped the club extend its current winning run to three matches, moving nine points back of the European places for next season.

Banks teed up Rodrigo Ribeiro for Augsburg’s opening goal in the 55th minute, with the centerback registering his first senior assist. Alexis Claude would ice the result in second-half stoppage time, giving Augsburg its nine Bundesliga win of the season.

Banks has now made 20 appearances for the club this season, putting himself in good position for a potential March USMNT call-up. After making eight appearances during the 2024-25 campaign, Banks has already set new career highs in multiple areas.

Augsburg still has aspirations of finishing in the top-six this spring and will next visit RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund in consecutive road trips this month.

In England, Haji Wright continued his positive scoring run for Coventry City. Brenden Aaronson started but Leeds United couldn’t avoid defeat vs. Manchester City.
