Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Tullis-Joyce, Aaronson, and more

Soccer

Manchester United’s strong run of form should do wonders for them as UEFA Women’s Champions League play resumes this week.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce and her Red Devil teammates will travel to Spanish club Atletico Madrid in Round of 16 action on Thursday. Tullis-Joyce has enjoyed a positive run of form in net, helping Marc Skinner’s squad ride a five-match winning streak in all competitions.

The U.S. women’s national team goalkeeper most recently produced a three-save shutout in a 2-0 WSL win over Leicester City on Saturday. Tullis-Joyce has registered four clean sheets in her last six appearances as Manchester United have not lost in its last nine matches overall.

Atletico Madrid has earned positive results in each of its last two matches, but Manchester United will go into this two-legged series as heavy favorites to advance.

In England, Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United take on Chelsea. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace face off with Burnley.

In Italy, Gianluca Busio and Venezia host Modena in Serie B play. Jonathan Klinsmann and Cesena visit Virtus Entella.

Elsewhere, Alex Zendejas and Club America face off with Olimpia in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup series.
