Goalie blunder hands Arnett late win against Dunbeholden

Giovanni Taylor scored the game’s only goal as Arnett Gardens FC defeated Dunbeholden FC 1-0 in the lone Jamaica Premier League (JPL) Monday night game, at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Last night’s result lifted Arnett Gardens three places up to seventh on 26 points, the same as Cavalier and one more than Dunbeholden FC. However, the Junglists are ahead of Cavalier on goal difference.

Arnett Gardens’ head coach Philip Williams was happy for the win.

“The other games we have played leading up to this we have been playing well, we couldn’t seem to find the way to get three points,” he admitted. “So to be able to do that tonight is very pleasing.”

His counterpart Damion Gordon said they were let down by a major defensive blunder.

“I think on the balance of things it was even for most parts,” he said.

“But at this level you can’t make those mistakes,” he noted of the way his team conceded.

Arnett found it difficult to break down the well organised Dunbeholden defence, even while they had the best chances of the match.

They would eventually take the lead in the 83rd minute when goalkeeper Jean-Luke Wilmott allowed Taylor’s tame shot to slip under his body.

Shakeen Powell had a great chance for Dunbeholden in time added but skied his effort.
