Andi Jane Releases Vivacious New Single “Fly Away”

Music

Nashville’s Americana and folk musician Andi Jane unveils her latest single, “Fly Away,” which is featured on her forthcoming album, The Ground Is Changing, scheduled for release on February 13.

The Ground Is Changing explores themes of changing beliefs, personal growth, and the courage required to pursue unconventional forms of love.

“The song was my way of saying, ‘I’m going home with you at the end of the night—and the part of me you’re worried about is the same part that made you fall for me in the first place,’” shares Andi Jane.

“Fly Away” travels on the comforting sounds of a classic string ensemble—banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and upright bass—capturing the lively spirit of bluegrass while steering clear of strict conventions. In contrast, the lyrics break away from tradition. Framed as a message to a possessive partner, the song reimagines personal freedom not as something threatening, but as the very quality that makes a relationship vibrant and worthwhile.

It’s a provocative song because it sidesteps the usual covetous relationships conveyed in Americana music – you’re mine, I’m yours. With “Fly Away,” Jane presents empowering ideas: love is whatever you want it to be; trust is erogenous; control is old-fashioned.

Raised on a farm at the end of a dirt road in Illinois, Jane grew up enjoying nature, using her imagination, and listening to music. After stints in the dance-rock and DJ cultures of Chicago, she began writing songs. Later, in Nashville, she wrote her first Americana song and knew she’d discovered her métier.

Opening with a brief, wonderfully contagious a cappella refrain, “Fly Away” rolls into a delicious bluegrass-flavored melody featuring a dazzling, ringing banjo and a sawing fiddle. Jane’s evocative vocals, dripping with just the right amount of twang, imbue the lyrics with a feeling at once warm and a little bit wicked, revealing her unique perspective on intimacy and love.

Brimming with rousing bluegrass flavors, on “Fly Away,” singer-songwriter Andi Jane raises uneasy questions about patterns of love.
