Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Trusty, Palmer-Brown, and more

Celtic are heading into the UEFA Europa League playoffs and rolling to a crucial Matchday 8 victory.

Auston Trusty scored for the second-consecutive European match as Celtic defeated FC Utrecht 4-2 in Glasgow on Thursday night. The American defender played 90 minutes in the match, winning five duels, making five clearances, and making three defensive recoveries.

With FC Utrecht fighting for an equalizer, Trusty propelled Celtic 4-2 ahead after the hour mark, rising high to head home in the 66th minute.

Martin O’Neill’s squad would hang on to seal their place into the playoff round.

Up next for Trusty and Celtic is a home league date with Falkirk on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Erik Palmer-Brown and Panathinaikos held AS Roma to a 1-1 Europa League draw. Malik Tillman scored twice in Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League victory. Weston McKennie and Folarin Balogun shared the spoils in their goal-less UCL draw.

Sergino Dest started and played 90 minutes in PSV’s 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Yunus Musah started and played 52 minutes in Atalanta’s 1-0 loss to Union St. Gilloise on Wednesday.

Johnny Cardoso came off the bench and played 26 minutes in Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Bodo/Glimt on Wednesday.

Timmy Chandler dressed but did not play in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Wednesday.

Josh Wynder is OUT (Injury) for Benfica.

Ricardo Pepi is OUT (Arm Injury) for PSV.

Tanner Tessmann came off the bench and played 45 minutes in Lyon’s 4-2 win over PAOK Salonika on Thursday.

Auston Trusty started, scored ONE GOAL, and played 90 minutes in Celtic’s 4-2 win over FC Utrecht on Thursday.

Erik Palmer-Brown started and played 90 minutes in Panathinaikos’ 1-1 draw with Roma on Thursday.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is OUT (Achilles Injury) for Celtic.
