The Outside Store holiday food drive was a big success

South End business collected more than $1,700 and three crates of food for the Sudbury Food Bank through its Skiers For Sustenance event

The Outside Store raised more than $1,700 and a whole pile of food during its Skiers For Sustenance Food Drive that ran until Dec. 31.

The South End shop, located at 2140 Long Lake Rd., encouraged customers to drop off donations of food or cash and created a QR code to make donating easy. As an incentive, the business offered 10 per cent off ski and snowboard tuneups and waxes in exchange for a donation.

The shop told Sudbury.com the idea to hold an event to benefit the Food Bank came from news of the higher-than-usual food bank usage in Ontario.

“We’d read an article stating more than one million people in Ontario needed a food bank over the past year and that didn’t sit well with us,” the store said. “We want to give it our best shot at making a difference in our community and helping to put food on the table for our neighbors, friends, and fell Sudburians. With success we’d like to make this an annual drive or even something we do twice per year!”

Josh Corbett, the Outside Store social media manager, told Sudbury.com the food drive was a rousing success, raising $1,745 as well as three crates of food for the Sudbury Food Bank.
