Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Aaronson faces Robinson, and more

Soccer

U.S. men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino will surely be tuning in to watch two of his in-form players facing off in Saturday’s English Premier League slate.

Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United host Antonee Robinson and Fulham as the league schedule pushes forward this weekend. Aaronson is riding a strong run of form in Daniel Farke’s starting lineup, scoring three goals in his last two starts. The USMNT attacker had receiving ample criticism for his lack of goal contributions during the first half of the season, but looks to have rebounded in a major way.

Robinson has made seven-consecutive starts in EPL play, finding his form again after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. After making a second-half cameo in Fulham’s FA Cup win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, Robinson should be fresh and ready to reclaim his starting spot at Elland Road this weekend.

Fulham has won its last four head-to-head matches against Leeds United in all competitions and know a win on Saturday could boost them as high as fifth by weekend’s end.

Elsewhere in England, George Campbell and Aidan Morris square off in EFL Championship action. Josh Sargent and Norwich City visits Wrexham.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso and Atletico Madrid face Deportivo Alaves in La Liga play.

In Germany, Malik Tillman and Cole Campbell square off in Bundesliga action. Gio Reyna, Joe Scally face off with Damion Downs. Kevin Paredes seeks his first start for Wolfsburg since returning from injury.

In France, Folarin Balogun and Monaco host Lorient to kick off this weekend’s Ligue 1 slate. Tanner Tessmann and Lyon host Stade Brest in the final match of the weekend.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan welcome Lecce to town. Yunus Musah and Atalanta visits Pisa.

Elsewhere, Auston Trusty and Dante Polvara both turn their attentions toward Scottish Cup action. Erik Palmer-Brown and Panathinaikos resume league play in Greece. Bryan Reynolds and Westerlo seek a return to winning ways against Cercle Brugge. Danny Leyva and Necaxa face Atlas in Liga MX action.
