Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has completed his transfer from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC to Turkish giants Trabzonspor, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwaiwu has been at the center of several transfer rumors in recent months following a series of standout performances for Wolfsberger.

Since joining the Austrian club in 2024, the defender has experienced a rapid rise over the last 15 months.

Last season, he established himself as a regular starter in the Austrian Bundesliga and played a pivotal role in the club’s Austrian Cup triumph.

The 22-year-old center-back had attracted interest from high-profile clubs, including PSG, Marseille, Lens, and Leeds United, but Trabzonspor eventually won the race for his signature.

While there were initial reports that Wolfsberger were reluctant to sell, the club has finally sanctioned the move.

Trabzonspor officially confirmed the signing of Nwaiwu in a deal worth €5.5 million on Wednesday.

The former Enyimba man has committed to a four-year contract and is eligible to begin his career for the Black Sea Storm immediately.

The other six are Victor Shaka, Augustine James, Isaac Promise, Ogenyi Onazi, Mikel Obi, Anthony Nwakaeme, and Paul Onuachu.

Asides from Nwakaeme and Onuachu, all the other players have retired from active professional football.

Onuachu is currently the biggest and most influential player at Trabzonspor, so it will be easy for Nwaiwu to settle down at the club. Moreover, both of them are from the eastern part of Nigeria, so that should make the bond stronger.

The former Enyimba will be expected to aid the club’s push for the Super Lig title against the big boys like Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

Nwaiwu will be hoping to shine in Trabzon so he can get a bigger move and also enter the conversation for a place in the Super Eagles squad.
