Man United forward agrees January move to Italy

Manchester United welcome the Premier League’s bottom side to Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The Red Devils defeated Newcastle United 1-0 on Boxing Day, having been beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa in their previous outing.

Victory against the Magpies leaves Ruben Amorim’s side sixth in the top flight standings, although they could move as high as fourth if they beat Wolves and other results go their way.

Off the pitch, with the January transfer window fast approaching, it appears that one member of United squad is increasingly likely to leave the club in January.

As per La Gazetta dello Sport, via CaughtOffside, forward Joshua Zirkzee has given the green light to a move to Italian side Roma in January.

The Dutch striker joined United from Serie A side Bologna in the summer of 2024 but has since struggled to recreate his best form.

The 24-year-old has scored just eight goals in 61 games for United across all competitions, and it appears that he could be on his way back to Italy next month.

While United boss Amorim is said to be keen to keep hold of the Netherlands international, the player himself is understood to be keen on the idea of a return to Italy having started just three of United’s 18n league games so far this term.

The report suggests that Zirkzee held positive talks with Roma’s sporting director, Ricky Massara, and head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, at the end of which he verbally agreed to a loan move to the Italian capital for the remainder of the campaign.

Zirkzee is contracted to Manchester United until the end of the 2028/29 season, but it appears increasingly likely that he will depart Old Trafford – on loan at least – in January.
