PS5’s Next Big Gacha Game Wants You to Take It for a Test Drive

Does the PS5 really need another anime-themed gacha game? Well, probably not, they are all starting to get a teensy bit samey, aren’t they?

But heck, we’ve been looking forward to Perfect World Entertainment’s ostentatiously named Neverness to Everness (or, for brevity, NTE) for quite some time.

And you’ll have the opportunity to try it for yourself soon on PS5, with the Chinese company announcing an upcoming ‘Co-Ex Test’ (or beta) which will be available on Sony’s console.

To participate, simply pre-register on the release’s official website, and then click the ‘Join Beta’ option. You’ll need to fill in a brief questionnaire, and it’s worth noting you may not be selected, so entering your information isn’t a guarantee.

The game’s being described as a “supernatural open world RPG”, with its closest analogue being Zenless Zone Zero, we suppose.

But unlike HoYoverse’s urban effort, this open world has vehicles and a full city life simulation system. You’ll be able to buy and rent apartments, for example, and decorate them to your tastes.

This trailer shows off some of the activities you’ll find in the sandbox, such as arcade games, fishing, mahjong, and more. It also introduces a bunch of characters, some of which – like Mint – we’ve met before. Others are new.

One detail worth reiterating about this game is that its gacha system will do away with the 50% chance mechanic most of these games employ. In other words, you’ll be guaranteed to unlock the currently promoted S-Rank character upon pulling 90 times. Signature weapons will be able to be unlocked through gameplay, too.

The reality is, with so many gacha games already available to play, companies are now starting to get increasingly competitive over how they wield the business model.

NTE will hope that its generosity and high production values make it a choice for many players, but of course, the proof, as always, will be in the pudding come launch.
